Deckel zu formen, die passen - das ist leichter gesagt als getan. Aber es gibt da einen Trick, der gleichzeitig auch namensgebend für diesen Kurs ist: Chopstick Boxes nenne ich all jene Gefäße mit Deckel, die als geschlossene Form in einem Stück gedreht werden. Anschließend verwende ich ein Stäbchen, um die Deckelöffnung in die Wand des Gefäßes zu drücken.

Chopstick boxes sind eine interessante technische Herausforderung und erlauben uns, mit der Form und Größe der Gefäße zu spielen… Aber Achtung: ein bisschen Fitzelarbeit gehört meistens auch dazu.

• Dauer: 10 Stunden

• Brände sind nicht im Preis inbegriffen. Pro Teilnehmer*in brennen wir maximal 10 Stücke. Für diese berechnen wir eine Glasier- und Brenngebühr von 18€/Kilo. Alle anderen Stücke bereiten wir wieder auf, damit der Ton weiter verwendet werden kann.

• für Tee und Kaffee ist gesorgt.

• für (leicht) Fortgeschrittene geeignet. Wer einen gleichmäßigen Zylinder mit 300-500 g Ton drehen kann und gerne genau arbeitet, sollte sich in diesem Kurs pudelwohl fühlen.

Alle Kurse finden in unserer Werkstatt in Zirl statt.

Lids that fit, easier said than done. However, there is a trick and it involves a chopstick, in case you are wondering. Chopstick boxes are objects that are thrown in one piece before the gallery is pushed into the side of the wall… with a chopstick ;) at least that’s my preferred method.

They are an interesting technical challenge and allow us to play with different dimensions and forms. Since they are thrown in one piece, fitting the lid to the body does not involve any measuring, but beware: they can be a bit fiddly.

• Duration: 10 hours

• Firings are not included in the course fee. We glaze and fire a maximum of 10 pieces per participant at an additional cost of 18€ per kilo of fired work. Pots not selected for firing will be recycled and cannot be taken away.

• there will be tea and coffee :)

• Previous experience is required. This course is for you if you are able to throw a 300-500g cylinder with even thickness from top to bottom and enjoy working with a certain amount of accuracy.

All courses take place in our workshop in Zirl, Austria.
